Pilates is a physical fitness system of controlled movements, which have the look and feel of a workout. It is designed to improve flexibility, building strength and endurance in the entire body. Pilates puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance. In some cases, it has been known to alleviate back pain. There are many different exercises that can be modified to suit a beginner or an advanced student. Lauri will guide you every step of the way. Because of the balance and strength benefits of Pilates, it is an excellent fitness regime for dancers, especially ballet. That is why Pilates is offered thru the Dancing Arts Club.
Pictured is Lauri Martineau, our Pilates instructor. During her college years, Lauri earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Behavioral Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. In 2003, she started a comprehensive training program through STOTT PILATES and received her Full Pilates Certification in 2007 which covers Matwork, the Reformer, Cadillac, Stability Chair and many other props.

WHEN: Tuesday & Thursday – 2:30 – 3:30 PM (all year)
There are a few mats and balance balls available in the studio, but if you have your own, please bring them along.
Classes are ongoing and registration can be done before the class session.
